Bffable started today as a folder with two markdown files in it. This post is the first entry of the dev log we promised ourselves we would keep.
The idea is small on purpose. A place to share creative writing with circles of people you trust, and nobody else. A poem posted to your family circle is readable by your family circle. That’s the whole privacy model, and we intend to keep it that simple.
What we decided on day one
Invites are the only door. You get in because someone who runs a circle invited you into it. Once inside, you can create one circle of your own, which gives you invites of your own. Growth happens at the speed of friendship.
Posts are markdown under the hood. The editor will feel like a normal rich text editor, but what it saves is portable text you could take anywhere.
The whole backend runs on Cloudflare: three Workers, a D1 database, an R2 bucket for images. One API serves the web app and, later, the native iOS and Android apps.
What’s next
Milestone one is the web app: invites, circles, the editor, comments. If you are reading this before that ships, you are early. Ask a friend for an invite once there are friends to ask.
